Heading toward the bulk of the New Orleans Saints' offseason work, a major question remains: Who will be the starter at left guard in the 2024 season?

The hole became even more glaring with the retirement of veteran James Hurst, who started 13 games at the position a year ago. As Mike Detillier explained on SportsTalk this week, the signing of veteran Lucas Patrick following rookie minicamp resets that part of depth chart, and he's on top

"They didn’t bring him in to watch," Detillier told WWL's Charlie Long. "He’s here to start." ...

Saints say logistics, not NFL rules, are a hurdle for inviting fans to training camp

The New Orleans Saints didn’t make a popular decision in moving their 2024 training camp to California, with operations traveling from Metairie to Irvine for weeks of practices this summer. And a report that NFL rules may prohibit the team from inviting fans to camp wasn’t welcomed warmly.

But Saints team president Dennis Lauscha explained that onsite logistics, not NFL marketing rules, are a bigger hurdle for the team. He believes that finding room for fans at UC-Irvine’s campus is going to be challenging.

“I think that (rule) may pertain more to sponsorship,” Lauscha said during a...

Dennis Allen comments on rookie first-round pick Taliese Fuaga playing left tackle

One of the surprise developments coming out of New Orleans Saints rookie minicamp last weekend was the news about where Taliese Fuaga was playing. The former Oregon State starter performed so well at right tackle that the Saints picked him at No. 14 overall in this year’s NFL draft, but when he took the practice field for the first time in black and gold he was lining up at left tackle. Fuaga was seen as an easy replacement for Ryan Ramczyk on the right side, while the veteran Pro Bowler is dealing with a career-threatening knee injury, but his first action came on the other end of the...

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Saints are heading to Irvine, Calif., for training camp this year, as their Metairie facility gets a well-needed facelift.

It now looks like the Saints won't have to leave the West Coast for that roughly four-week period.

New Orleans' first two preseason games are expected to be in Arizona and San Francisco, according to Jeff Duncan of Nola.com.

The Saints would travel to the Cardinals in the second week of August. Then host the 49ers at the University of California in Irvine for joint practices, before playing in San Francisco in the third week of August...

Possible candidates for the Saints season opener at home

The New Orleans Saints kicked off the 2023 season with a defensive slugfest, edging out the Tennessee Titans 16-15 at the Caesars Superdome. In a game dominated by field goals, it was the Saints’ defense and rookie kicker Blake Grupe who emerged as the heroes.

The 2024 NFL season hold the same type of excitement that culminates in New Orleans with Super Bowl LIX, and the Saints will be eager to kick things off in style to start a strong march for the big game. The 2023 season left the Saints with a bittersweet taste. A 9-8 record wasn’t a disaster, but it wasn’t enough to reach the...

Report: Saints were in the mix for former Chiefs WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling

It doesn’t look like the New Orleans saints are finished adding wide receivers. They were in the mix for ex-Kansas City Chiefs wideout Marquez Valdes-Scantling before he signed with the Buffalo Bills, per Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz, which makes sense.

The Saints were outbid for Valdes-Scantling by the Chiefs just two years ago, and he was someone we suggested as a fit for New Orleans once Kansas City let him go as a salary cap casualty earlier this offseason. The team agreed, but you can’t fault the player for wanting to go to a better situation. Josh Allen is a much better...

ESPN's Bill Barnwell has a laughable trade offer for Saints CB Marshon Lattimore

Speculation about Marshon Lattimore being traded is going to be a recurring theme for this New Orleans Saints offseason. While the Saints did restructure their contract with Lattimore in a unique way to make him easier to trade, they haven’t been shopping him around or given him permission to seek a trade. If the right deal presents itself, they’d be open to it, but that hasn’t happened yet.

And this suggestion from ESPN’s Bill Barnwell should get laughed off the phone. Barnwell came up with a list of trades and free agent signings he’d like to see happen around the NFL this summer, but...

Saints tied with the Falcons for easiest strength of schedule

On Tuesday, May 14, the NFL released the strength of the schedule for each of the 32 teams. The New Orleans Saints have an opponent win percentage of .453, tied only with the Atlanta Falcons.

This makes it two years in a row that the strength of the schedule for the Saints is among the easiest in the league. Last year, the strength of the schedule was .427, ranking 31st in the NFL. The team unfortunately failed to capitalize on that opportunity, finishing the season at 9-8 and missing the playoffs. New Orleans will hope to rectify that mistake in 2024.

How can they do that?

Well first...

Here's where the Saints' strength of schedule ranks

NEW ORLEANS — With the National Football League releasing the complete 2024 schedule on Wednesday, CBS Sports published how the strength of schedule rankings break down for all 32 teams heading into the 2024 season.

For the second straight year, the New Orleans Saints find themselves facing one of the NFL's softest schedules – this year tied for the easiest with NFC South rival the Atlanta Falcons.

Opponents for both teams compiled a 131-158 record with a .453 winning percentage.

Last year, the Saints (9-8) trailed only the Falcons (7-10) in ease of schedule.

Despite possessing the...

Potential New Orleans offensive line starting lineups in 2024

The New Orleans Saints have a million combinations to choose from while crafting their 2024 starting offensive line.

Although the OL has gained depth over the past few months, the only clear starting addition is rookie Taliese Fuaga. Creating a starting lineup may be challenging for new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak and offensive line coach John Benton.

You might notice that every left guard option reads “Udoh/Saldiveri/Patrick/Lemieux.” That’s simply because no one has a clue which of these players will get the starting gig. None of them have been consistently healthy and starting...

Saints to kick off 2024 preseason against Cardinals in Arizona

Here’s some big New Orleans Saints news. Nola.com’s Jeff Duncan reports that the Saints will open their 2024 preseason with an exhibition game against the Arizona Cardinals at State Farm Stadium in Glendale. They’ll have joint practices with the San Francisco 49ers before traveling to Santa Clara’s Levi Stadium for their second preseason game.

It’s easy to get excited about the prospect of seeing star talents like Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray and wideout Marvin Harrison Jr., this year’s fourth overall draft pick, but we should remember that it’s preseason. Both teams may not play...

Saints tied for the easiest strength of schedule again in 2024

Dennis Allen and Derek Carr couldn’t take advantage of the NFL’s easiest schedule last year, but they’re getting another shot in 2024. The New Orleans Saints are tied with the Atlanta Falcons for the easiest strength of schedule this season (.453), which is the same position they found themselves in a year ago.

And as we saw, it didn’t matter. Allen’s defense was beaten by backup quarterbacks like Joshua Dobbs and Desmond Ridder. Carr wilted in prime time matchups with the few playoff teams on their schedule, coming up short against the Houston Texans, Detroit Lions, and Los Angeles Rams...

Saints schedule predictions: What might it look like?

With the NFL’s schedule release coming up this Wednesday, a frequent topic that has come up in recent weeks is what might the 2024 schedule look like for the New Orleans Saints? With the departure of former head coach Sean Payton and long-time quarterback Drew Brees, it seems like the Saints are no longer one of the more enticing teams to watch in the NFL. So, it is likely that we will see another season with minimal prime-time games once again. What the team does have though are some games that Saints fans, players and even coaches will definitely have circled on their calendars at the...
