Just got this from the \hungarian government

Dear Sir / Madam! NATO plans to set up a mission in Ukraine. This would include military training and the coordination of arms shipments. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization would pump 100 billion dollars into the war in five years, so they expect it to be prolonged for at least five years. What we are seeing is the worst case scenario because it could lead to a world war. There is enormous pressure in Hungary to support plans to expand the war. However, the government's position is clear: We want to stay out of the war. We do not want to participate in this NATO mission. We will do everything we can to avoid having to send weapons and soldiers. War has no solution on the battlefield. Back to the negotiating table. Lives can only be saved with a ceasefire and peace. The very definition of cannon fodder.

Cannon fodder are the people riding around in tanks and armored personnel carriers. Those vehicles draw that fire.

What those Russian troops are doing is reoccupying lines (trenches) that they withdrew from on their own. They can't park a tank in a trench very well, so they walk to get there, it's not that far, they are going there to stay. They're ahead to walk there.

If they took armored vehicles, the vehicles would draw cannon fire. They're not taking positions from Ukrainians, their movement is largely unopposed.

I would think the Ukrainians might have planted some IED's in those trenches when the Russian abandon their forward positions for over a year. I could foresee them occupying those trenches again, so i would think the Ukranians would forsee it as well, and plant some nasty surprises for their eventual return.

The reason the Ukranians didn't move up and occupy those positions is they are due to the formation of the hills and valleys, they are one way fortifications in an area which is defensible by one side over the border, but not defensible by the other side who's lands it is.

A legal border doesn't always map out a natural defenable border, so a natural buffer zone is formed between where they overlap.
