An analysis of first-round choice Taliese Fuaga and the logic behind why the Saints selected him.

By Bob Rose - Saints News Network | SI

The New Orleans Saints selected Oregon State offensive tackle Taliese Fuaga with the 14th overall choice in the first round of the NFL Draft. It was certainly no secret that this was the position the Saints would likely target in the first round.

With Fuaga, New Orleans gets one of the highest rated offensive linemen in a deep draft class at the position. He was graded among the top five tackles, even as high as third by some analysts.

After standing out at Mount Tahoma High School in Washington, Fuaga jumped one state south to play collegiately at Oregon State. He was a reserve in his first two years but had earned a starting role going into 2022.

Between 2022 and 2023, Fuaga started all 25 games for the Beavers at right tackle. He'd earn 2nd Team All-Pac 12 accolades in 2022, then followed that up with All-American honors and a 1st Team All-Pac 12 selection last year.

Fuaga brings a formidable frame (6'6" & 324-Lbs) along with surprising agility for his size. Additionally, he plays with a nasty demeanor and is an outstanding finisher while being perhaps the most developed pass blocker in this year's draft class. ...

When the New Orleans Saints were on the clock with the No. 42 overall selection in the draft after trading up, there were a lot of positions that people expected to be call. Cornerback was not one of them. Much to the surprise of many, that’s where they went with Alabama defensive back Kool-Aid McKinstry.

Since it wasn’t really a position of need, what exactly are the expectations for McKinstry as a rookie? Well that really depends on what happens with the current roster of cornerbacks that New Orleans has at their disposal. Marshon Lattimore is constantly in the trade rumor mills...

The New Orleans Saints aren’t finished signing rookie free agents after the 2024 NFL draft. They’ve added former Arkansas and Missouri defensive end Trajan Jeffcoat, as first reported by NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill.

Jeffcoat, 24, started his career at Missouri before transferring to Arkansas (where he was voted a team captain) in 2023 after earning his degree. He’s a highly experienced prospect with 60 games behind him in the SEC. And he put up respectable numbers with 27.5 tackles for loss and 15.5 sacks in his career.

He also fits the athletic prototype the Saints look for at...

METAIRIE, La. — The New Orleans Saints filled a pressing need with their first-round pick in the NFL draft.

Then, in the second round, they traded up to get a player they targeted at a relative strength position.

In selecting Oregon State offensive tackle Taliese Fuaga No, 14 overall, coach Dennis Allen felt the Saints took a logical approach.

“There’s really not any sense screwing around,” he said. “You’ve got the guy you like. It’s a position of need. Let’s don’t overthink this. Let’s take the player.”

Fuaga played right tackle at Oregon State, but with New Orleans having potential...

Shane Beamer fires back at 'lazy narrative' around Saints QB Spencer Rattler

Why did Spencer Rattler fall all the way to the New Orleans Saints in the 2024 NFL draft? The former South Carolina and Oklahoma passer was once the highest-rated pro style quarterback recruit in the country, but a difficult college career meant his experience thus far didn’t go as planned.

Commonly projected to be a third round draft pick, Rattler wasn’t selected in the first two days of this year’s event. When he was still on the board early on the third and final day, network panels covering the draft tried to explain his fall. Some pointed to his less-than-flattering depiction on a...

New Orleans Saints fans have keyed in on some of their team’s trends in scouting college players, and there’s one metric in particular that gets discussed leading up to the NFL draft: Relative Athletic Scores.

Developed by NFL analyst Kent Lee Platte, RAS is a composite score that inputs standard testing results from the NFL Scouting Combine and college pro days, then digests that information into a single number on a 10-point scale for ease of use. It’s valuable because there are thousands of players at every position group to compare against current prospects.

To be clear, the New...

The New Orleans Saints invited Furman running back Dominic Roberto to their upcoming rookie minicamp, he announced on Twitter. He’ll have a great opportunity to compete with other free agents and make his case for a spot on the team’s 90-man roster ahead of training camp.

Roberto was productive in his five-year career at Furman, recording 466 carries for 2,514 rushing yards with 28 touchdowns and just one fumble. He also blocked often in pass protection but wasn’t asked to catch many passes. It’s possible the Saints envision Roberto as a fullback. He weighed in at 5-foot-10.5 and 235...
