South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler was selected by the New Orleans Saints with the 150th pick in the fifth round of Saturday's NFL draft.

Rattler's selection by the Saints ended a modern day NFL draft record of 138 picks separating quarterback selections. Rattler was the first quarterback taken since the Denver Broncos selected Oregon quarterback Bo Nix with the No. 12 pick on Thursday night.

So, why did Rattler slide down draft boards? One key reason, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, was due to Rattler's demeanor when he was featured as a high school quarterback on the Netflix show QB1: Beyond the Lights.

"This is kind of weird to say, honestly," Rapoport couched. "Rattler did a reality show in high school called QB1: Beyond the Lights. It did not make him look great, and it is unbelievable how many different teams mentioned to me the image of him in that show and that they can't get it out of their heads, which I think would be a public service announcement to all 17-year-olds. But it is fascinating as teams weigh whether or not to draft him."

There weren’t many people expecting Spencer Rattler to make it to the fifth round of the 2024 NFL draft, but the New Orleans Saints made sure he didn’t fall any further. And Robert Griffin III was ecstatic to see them to do it — he says the Saints got the steal of the draft at quarterback by picking Rattler at No. 150.

“Of all the quarterbacks in this year’s draft class Spencer Rattler probably had the worst offensive line,” Griffin began, highlighting a fourth-quarter play against Kentucky in which he keyed his running back into picking up the blitz. He continued, “No hate on them...

2024 NFL draft: Saints pick Northern Iowa DT Khristian Boyd

This was a popular pick for the New Orleans Saints in a lot of mock drafts, and it ends up being the direction they went. The Saints selected Northern Iowa defensive tackle Khristian Boyd at No. 199 in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL draft, reuniting him with his former college teammate Trevor Penning.

Boyd wasn’t just popular among NFL fans. He had the second-most pre-draft meetings and visits of any prospect in this year’s class. Teams were highly intrigued by the run-stopping defensive tackle from a smaller school, and it’s easy to see why. He generated a ton of pressure on top of...

With their second of three fifth-round NFL Draft selections, the New Orleans Saints select Jaylan Ford, a 6’2” linebacker from Texas.

Ford, a four-year player for the Longhorns, comes to the Black and Gold with 287 career tackles, including 100+ his last two seasons, and six career interceptions. New Orleans was rumored to be in the linebacker market this weekend after the recent poor play of that group.

Ford brings a ton of upside potential in a low-risk slot for the Saints as the Frisco native will look to add depth in both the linebacking corps as well as the special teams unit.

He’s...

Here’s another interesting pick for the New Orleans Saints in the 2024 NFL draft. The Saints selected Texas linebacker Jaylan Ford at No. 175 overall in the fifth round, adding more athleticism and a ton of playmaking ability to the middle of their defense.

Ford’s 8.30 Relative Athletic Score is close enough to line up with the Saints’ in-house metrics, and it’s worth noting how well he moves for a 6-foot-2, 240 pound linebacker. He’s very explosive and agile in a small space, though he doesn’t have any business covering receivers 40 yards downfield. He’s at his best making plays in run...

For his career, Rattler threw for 10,807 yards, 77 touchdowns and 32 interceptions. The former top prospect threw for 3,000+ yards on three different occasions and also added 410 rushing yards in his career.

Means stands at 6’2” and 204 pounds as a native of Lovejoy, Georgia. Starting his career at LA Tech, Means caught 22 passes for 430 yards and a pair of touchdowns before transferring to Pitt. Means spent two seasons in the Steel City with 68 passes for 1,112 yards and eight touchdowns during two seasons of play.

The New Orleans Saints made a surprising pick in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL draft by picking South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler at No. 150 overall. But there’s one person who wasn’t surprised: Rattler himself.

Rattler told local media in a conference call that he was one of the Saints’ 30 official pre-draft visits, and that he had a great experience in New Orleans. He struck up a rapport with offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak and went out to dinner with Saints quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko (at Fleming’s, a popular steakhouse and wine bar in Metairie).

But his New...

Cameras were rolling when Spencer Rattler and his family learned the New Orleans Saints were drafting him. He’s ready to get to work.

“About time. About time,” Rattler said after swapping his South Carolina hat for a Saints cap, embracing his family. He was widely projected to be a third-round pick but slipped and fell all the way through rounds three, four, and partly through the fifth frame before the Saints called him up.

He’s entering a great spot to learn and compete. Rattler needs to dislodge veteran backups like Nathan Peterman and Kellen Mond before he can push Jake Haener for...
