Klint Kubiak becoming the New Orleans Saints’ offensive coordinator this offseason marks the fourth consecutive year that a San Francisco 49ers assistant became a play-caller for a new team. The Shanahan offense has long prevailed in the NFL, and if the Kubiak hire works out like the three previous poaches from this system it’d be a big win for New Orleans.

Kyle Shanahan became the 49ers coach in 2017, and plenty of promising NFL coaches came and went in that seven-season span. The three offensive assistants who were hired by other teams before Kubiak were Mike Lafleur (New York Jets, hired in 2021) Mike McDaniel (Miami Dolphins, 2022) and Bobby Slowik (Houston Texans, 2023). McDaniel was the only head coach hire of the four.

Lafleur, McDaniel and Slowik’s first seasons with their new teams compared to how those teams did the year prior was identical with all three. Each team’s offense improved. ...

NEW ORLEANS — The Saints wrapped up the first week of OTA's, and so far new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak and his staff have received rave reviews from the entire team. While the Saints learn a new offense, they must also figure out what their O-line will look like.

The two known commodities on the Saints offense line are guard Cesar Ruiz No. 51 and center Erik Mccoy No. 78. The other three spots are unknowns.

Mccoy said he has to build off of last year and wants to be a constant encourager.

"Because we have a bunch of young guys, even though they are super talented, we have young...

Bleacher Report ranks Saints defense just outside NFL's top 10

Defense has been the face of the New Orleans Saints since Drew Brees retired and has, arguably, been the backbone for even longer. Coming into the season, Bleacher Report ranked the Saints as the 11th-best defense in the NFL. The B/R scouting department used offseason activity in addition to last year’s performance to form their rankings.

The belief in the Saints defense stems from what they’ve historically been able to do. The defense has been strong since 2017. Dennis Allen’s stretch of consistent defense creates a blind faith similar to the Sean Payton era offense. The confidence is...

D'Marco Jackson predicted to be the Saints' most notable roster cut

Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon predicted linebacker D’Marco Jackson as the New Orleans Saints most notable roster cut. Jackson isn’t a notable name on the roster, so him ending as the most notable roster cut would be great for the Saints. That means a player like Payton Turner once again looks good in training camp.

Kenyon’s criteria for the most notable roster cut from each team, identifying a player who may not be released early in the offseason, but instead after training camp. More likely than not, each team’s notable roster cut won’t happen until right before final roster cuts...

Report: Saints pay millions for Superdome renovations after days of blame game

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Saints made an $11.4 million payment on Friday for the team's ongoing renovations to the Caesar's Superdome, a team spokesperson confirmed with WWL Louisiana.

For two days, the Benson organization and the Superdome Commission went back and forth over the payments. Later, they said the "real dispute was over terms of a new long-term lease that would keep the team in the Dome until at least 2035," Nola.com reported.

Most renovations have been completed. About $58 million in work remains, with the Saints responsible for about $41 million. The Saints have...

TD Wire says Carl Granderson is the Saints' most underrated player

Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar highlighted the most underrated player for all 32 teams in the NFL, and defensive end Carl Granderson was his choice for the New Orleans Saints.

The team’s 2023 sacks leader is looking to repeat that feat in 2024 — Granderson broke out last year by nearly doubling his snap count after working his way into the starting lineup, posting career-highs in sacks, tackles, and pressures.

Even after signing Chase Young in free agency while bringing back Payton Turner from a season-long injury (and with Isaiah Foskey pushing for reps), the Saints are going to be...

Saints pick dynamic QB prospect in Bleacher Report's 5-year re-draft

  • News source: Darrion Gray

The biggest problem for the New Orleans Saints is they don’t have the quarterback of the future. Derek Carr may show he can be better than he was a season ago, but he isn’t the 10-to-15 year answer moving forward. In Bleacher Report’s five-year re-draft, New Orleans solved their biggest problem.

This re-draft made every player drafted since 2020 eligible again. Teams had to take the player’s current contract as well. For example, Joe Burrow was selected second and the Tennessee Titans had to take his $300 million contract with him.

Draft order was determined in a lottery system that...

According to multiple sources observing the New Orleans Saints OTAs this past week, Payton Turner could be ready for a comeback season.

Turner was drafted by New Orleans out of the University of Houston in 2021. Since then, he has only played in 15 games. Last season, he only played in two games and recorded one tackle.

However, a healthy season may finally be on the horizon for the former first-round pick.

According to NOF.com’s Nick Underhill and Mike Triplett, Turner was spotted getting reps with the first team defense during OTAs. He also appeared to be healthy and active. It should...

Just how successful will the New Orleans Saints be in 2024? According to the latest win total projections released by ESPN’s Mike Clay, not too well — Clay has the Saints with just 8.8 wins, which rounds up to the same 9-8 record they achieved last year.

And as we saw, those weren’t enough wins to clinch a playoff berth. The Saints can’t settle for less than double-digit wins and hope to reach the postseason. They need to win as many divisional matchups as possible and knock out a couple of opponents from outside the NFC South. We’ve shared our own game-by-game predictions now that the...
