The New Orleans Saints made a surprising pick in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL draft by picking South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler at No. 150 overall. But there’s one person who wasn’t surprised: Rattler himself.

Rattler told local media in a conference call that he was one of the Saints’ 30 official pre-draft visits, and that he had a great experience in New Orleans. He struck up a rapport with offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak and went out to dinner with Saints quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko (at Fleming’s, a popular steakhouse and wine bar in Metairie).

But his New...

The New Orleans Saints have gone with a contingency plan for Derek Carr as they select South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler with the No. 150 overall selection in the 2024 NFL draft.

Rattler has been through a lot during his football career up to this point, but has all of the talent in the world that can be unlocked in the right situation.

He was a five-star recruit out of high school and the top quarterback in the country as he committed to Oklahoma where he had a complicated career — fans chanting for him to be replaced by Caleb Williams — that led to him transferring to South...

Cameras were rolling when Spencer Rattler and his family learned the New Orleans Saints were drafting him. He’s ready to get to work.

“About time. About time,” Rattler said after swapping his South Carolina hat for a Saints cap, embracing his family. He was widely projected to be a third-round pick but slipped and fell all the way through rounds three, four, and partly through the fifth frame before the Saints called him up.

He’s entering a great spot to learn and compete. Rattler needs to dislodge veteran backups like Nathan Peterman and Kellen Mond before he can push Jake Haener for...

Here’s that help at wide receiver that fans have been asking for. The New Orleans Saints selected Pittsburgh Panthers wide receiver Bub Means in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL draft, at No. 170 overall. He transferred a couple of times in college and also played for Tennessee and Louisiana Tech.

Means led Pitt in receiving last year and has a lot to offer athletically. He’s taller and heavier than Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed at 6-foot-1 and 213 pounds, with better straight-line speed than A.T. Perry (he timed the 40 yard dash in just 4.43 seconds). He’s known for having some success...

The New Orleans Saints stunned in Round 5 by picking South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler at No. 150 overall in the 2024 NFL draft. Projected to be picked much sooner, Rattler’s selection ended the longest drought between quarterbacks being picked in draft history (137 slots).

Rattler, 23, lost his starting job to Caleb Williams at Oklahoma in 2021 and transferred to South Carolina the next year. He started two seasons for the Gamecocks, finishing his college career with a 68.5% completion percentage and 10,807 total passing yards. He scored 77 touchdown passes against 32...

Why the Saints drafted Kool Aid McKinstry in the second round of the NFL Draft

In the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Saints traded up from pick 45 to pick 41 from the Green Bay Packers. Kool-Aid McKinstry is now a member of the New Orleans Saints, and it makes sense.

Besides having the best name in the draft, Kool-Aid is an amazing pick. Throughout the draft process, people have put him as one of the top corners this year, and in college this past season, he was only targeted 39 times. Kool-Aid has some of the best press skills in the whole draft and fits the Saints’ scheme very well. The Saints love to have their cornerbacks press like they are in man and...

Here’s the biggest question for New Orleans Saints’ second-round pick Kool-Aid McKinstry is where will he play in 2024. For now, Marshon Lattimore and Paulson Adebo are the starting corners on the outside with Alontae Taylor manning the slot. Where does McKinstry fit into that picture as a rookie?

When New Orleans traded up to select the Alabama cornerback, Lattimore was the next person who jumped to many peoples’ minds. Some disregarded Adebo as a threat to start, mostly national media, while some said this sealed Lattimore’s fate as a trade candidate this summer. For multiple reasons...

The New Orleans Saints made their inevitable trade up at the beginning of the second round, jumping from 45 to 41 to select Kool-Aid McKinstry, CB from Alabama.

Here are five things to know about the Saints new cornerback:

When Kool-Aid McKinstry showed up to the NFL Combine, he, like everyone else, had to go through medical exams, and the found he had a Jones fracture in his right foot.

He didn’t miss a single game this season, so it’s unclear exactly when this injury happened, but it’s expected that he will be a full go for training camp.

In 2023, McKinstry was named a first-team...

The New Orleans Saints traded up in the second round of the NFL Draft with the Green Bay Packers to select cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry from Alabama.

McKinstry has been rated as high as the number one cornerback in the class on some boards making him a desired pick for many teams. Head coach Dennis Allen was surprised he slipped so far and traded a fourth and fifth-round pick to jump four spots and secure the selection.

The best part of McKinstry’s game is his play IQ. He offers great communication before the snap and during the play. He is disciplined and patient in coverage keeping...
