First, Wingo, Schlereth and the other guy (name escapes me) said he should never have SAID that he believes the Saints can go undefeated. Wingo said the Pats never had anyone say that all season long during their run. I can't argue with this opinion.
Second, they ripped Reggie for saying, in the same interview, "when I'm NFL MVP, Super Bowl MVP and Pro Bowler"...
They flashed his stats up on the screen, said his rushing numbers don't equate to MVP-type numbers and Schlereth went on to say Reggie was a great athlete but not a good football player. They then showed two clips from the Dolphin game of him missing the block on the safety who sacked Drew and the lackluster running up the sideline for no gain on the screen pass. Schlereth said the two plays showed a "total lack of effort."
Just the messenger here, guys.

All the quotes were taken out of context. I stopped watching ESPN as they are primarily an entertainment network as evidenced by the first letter in their name.
Those comments of Reggie's are gong to linger all season until we loose or win out.

Schlereth's go to line for Reggie is "he's an athlete, not a football player". He's regurgitated that a few times. Him saying that again does not surprise me. I'd also be interested in hearing how they think Reggie should have responded to that question. Do they want him to say that we can't go undefeated? And Reggie's comment about MVP was probably taken out of context as well.

Excellent! No one likes to prove people wrong more than Sean Payton about Reggie Bush. I'm inserting Reggie into my starting lineup for this Monday's Game. Keep it up Wingo, Schlereth, et al.
We've already shown here that Marcellus Wiley is just talk and fluff... he's pegged us to lose a couple of times and arrogantly so... especially againts the Jets. He's kind of an idiot.
This is just an example of what happens when a the media puts its own interest ahead of the interest of the subject of the story and the audience's interest.
The first part: screw the patsies. How'd not talking about it work out for them in the Super Bowl?
I'm sick of timidity from us and across the league. If you can't say you expect to beat someone's butt, or you have to say "no comment" or expect to lose you should be a baseball fan.
I love to hear the Sapps, Porters, Horns, Ochocincos, et cetera, shoot their mouths off. Sometimes I don't like it, and I laugh like hell when they can't back it up. This is a man's game, though, and swagger about yourself (not degrading the opponent) is part of it. Now there's a difference when you go Crowder or Jerramy Stevens and try to call someone else out as bad or having flaws, but I see nothing wrong with expecting to deliver.
Even when it goes South, I love it when players like Kitna promise 10 wins and make his team try to rise up to meet it. The failure isn't in the talking, it's the doing.
We will crush the Falcons. I'd love to see a quote saying, "On Monday Night Football we plan to show who will win this division. We expect it to be the start of the first sweep. We have a long way to go to do that, but that's our goal and expectation. We want the best game any of the teams can bring. We don't expect it to be easy, but we expect to win all 6 games." Bring it on.
The man was asked if the Saints could go undefeated; he said something like, "Yes, we can; we have the coaching, the players, the heart to make it a possibility." (That's a paraphrase, I'm sure someone sharper than I can quote him exactly.)
How is that blown up by the press into "Yes, we WILL?" I guarantee you that if you asked any player for the Saints, Colts, or Broncos, they would give a similar answer--those players all believe in their teams and have seen no reason for doubt or dissembling yet.
Seriously, when one guy's being taken to task for eating a flippin' hot dog and another is being given a drubbing in the press for answering a direct question honestly and with obvious respect to his team-mates, I'm beginning to think ESPN pundits and reporters just don't have enough to do with their day.
Maybe they could fill up some of that time by working in the soup kitchen Mark Sanchez gave dogs and burgers to or mow the grass Reggie Bush paid for to help rebuild Tad Gormley Stadium. That might be enough to keep them off players' backs when those players have done nothing worth their idle scorn.
I hate the way the media can spin anything any way that they want to. You can show 2 plays that show what is perceived to be a lack of effort and not show the all out effort plays that he does make. He converted 2 3rd down screen passes into 1st downs when he should have been tackled for a loss both times, one at a very crucial point in the game. Then he jumps 7 or so yards in to end zone over a defender. Say what you want about Reggie ducking out of bounds and avoiding contact at certain times, but he has a nose for the end zone and for the first down marker and has shown time and time again that he will do what is necessary to get there.
Reporters always complain about bland, cliched answers, but when an athlete shows their confidence and speaks frankly they are ripped for it. Shouldn't players on a good team feel like they can win every game?
Sure he could have said something about it being a long season and not getting ahead of themselves, but he was honest. He feels like with our coaching staff and talent we COULD win every game. I hope all of our players feel that way.
Now they are just grasping at straws trying to create a stir where there is none. ESPN really has become a complete joke, and it's hard to take them seriously anymore.
I'm tired of espn. I think we as fans deserve much better than the biased dribble that they spew on a daily basis. Schlereth is a complete buffoon and so is his employer.

After all this time, I have no idea why anyone puts much, if any stock into the sports news part of ESPN. I also have no idea why, after all this time, anyone really gives a flying **** what the ESPN commentators say. ALL they do is attempt to stir things up so they can manufacture entertainment and sell commercials on their shows.
Serious as a heart attack here folks; everyone should really consider not giving a flying **** about ESPN's commentators or shows if all they do is **** you off. I haven't turned on ESPN for a year now, except when the Saints just happen to be on MNF and I haven't missed one thing.
Yeah! Reggie should admit he and the Saints suck and they'll never even sniff a Superbowl! Reggie should admit in every interview he's a bust and grovel to the football GOD that is Schlereth and ask for forgivenes.
