This piece aired on the CBS pregame show. The full transcript of his piece, The Spirit of New Orleans, can be viewed on his website here. The online written piece is much more extensive than the edited-down CBS version.
I apologize in advance for the poor video quality and audio. I'm not much of a tech guru but wanted to share the video to those who didn't get a chance to see it. Hopefully someone will upload a better version than this in the near future, and hopefully YouTube won't yank it due to "copyright violations".
I really like how the first 2/3 of the video has "When the Saints Go Marching In" played in the background but in a Harmonic Minor key. That tone lasts until right after he talks about Katrina. At 2:50 He kicks off the Major key for the rest of the vid. Its pretty neat. This piece was very well done.
I watched the Minnesota game with Wynton in NYC, and he and I were dyin'. We felt that we were conditioned over many years to watch and expect them to lose. I tried convincing him that we would win, but he kept telling me that he didn't see it. At one point, the Saints went up by 7 and he pulled out his trumpet and started jamming "Oh When The Saints" Sheer joy. When the Vikings tied it up, he put his trumpet down. We were both pacing and then Wynton said, "I have to hope that Favre throws one of his patented interceptions." Thank you Favre...
His piece about New Orleans and the Saints is a sweet piece indeed. "Ghosts, goblins, and ‘haints aggravate. Saints congregate. I hear them now bringing that 43 year second line to a glorious crescendo. “Who Dat Say What Dat When Us Do Dat?” It’s like waiting 43 years to hear somebody say ‘I Love You’ back. And they do. Let the tale be told ’bout the black and gold won the Super Bowl.
And those jazzmen still play sad songs, but they always end happy…they always do."
