Pete Prisco revealed his initial 2024 NFL Power Rankings. He has the Saints at 27! He has the Saints as the 2nd biggest drop down since the end of the 2023 season. How and why did he come to that conclusion? His rational is a bit conflicting when discussing the Saints offseason. Yesterday I posted a thread in which Colin Cowherd Picks The Saints To Finish Last In The NFCS. What do these guys know that we don't? What's in the water that these guys are drinking? It surely isn't Kool-Aid! (pun intended)

James Skrmetta ripped Cowherd for his take in a video on his YouTube channel and does the same to Pete Prisco for his ranking, questioning how his analysis is flawed. The Skrmetta video is worth the watch as he uses analytics instead of a shallow opinion to challenge the subjective take of both Cowherd and Prisco in his critique of their work.

I have to agree with Skrmetta on most of his take. First of all, the Saints drafted in the 14th position in 2024 because that's where they ranked by win/loss record at the end of the 2023 season. Most folks subscribe to the theory that your record is who you are. At least in the case of year over year one must accept that's who you were. CBS/Prisco must have had the Saints at 16 in their end of year Power Rankings and now they open their 2024 Power Rankings with the Saints at 27, a fall of 11 spots in the offseason from their last Power Rankings.

There's no way to justify the Saints after the offseason and now the draft having fallen to the 5th worst team in the league. Agree or Not?

Based on where teams are today, without having had a single practice or preseason game, and without offseason free agency completed or trades made, where would you rank the teams in the NFCS as of today?

New Orleans Saints - 27
They will have a new-look offense with a new coordinator in Klint Kubiak, but are they any better on that side of the ball when it comes to talent? Age has also crept in on defense.119-8-0

(Beware - The video begins with some heavy hating on the Saints)

We won’t be top ten or sure. But I sense most folks on this board think we will be better in 24 than we were in 23.

I don't see it. But, I would say low 20’s would be a fair take.

I've said it before, but the Power Rankings don't mean diddly poo to diddly poo. It's not like they help determine who is playing in the playoffs like college rankings. It's just another metric of opinion that frankly I couldn't care less about.... ESPECIALLY in the offseason. It's like college football preseason rankings of teams who haven't even played a down, yet.

I understand feeling we didn’t get better (we did), but to think a defensive team that hasn’t won under 7 games in 20 years and that won 9 games last year, is going to suddenly be a 3-5 win bottom-feeder is dumb.

Underhill was ranting about this yesterday, and he’s not exactly bullish on us having a good season.

Could it happen? Sure. Anything can happen, but there’s no evidence to project that beforehand.

Talent wise I think we are about the same as last year! Solid draft, but tough to tell yet what’s gonna happen! Atlanta definitely improved, on paper, and I think Tampa will take a step back.

Now the biggest thing for me is that we were pretty much a .500 team last year, and we played the easiest schedule since I became a fan 25 years ago. We didn’t really face a good QB last year and that will definitely change now! We know PC was pretty ugh, so hopefully Kubiak will change that.

I’m predicting 8-9 this year, but I hope I am wrong!

A lot of talk about the schedule, but this year’s schedule is also historically easy on paper.

I like it, last year people were expecting more, this year people are expecting less. I like it when people expect less of the team and are pessimistic, it should lead to suprise.

Heck, I'm excited to see if the Saints are featured on Hard Knocks, I'm actually hoping for it because so many peoples opinions of Dennis Allen are based on what we think, or get in the media. I'm very interested to see how this guy deals with the players and why they obviously respect him when most fans don't. The only people that wanted the Jameis issue to be more than it was were people who are def against him.

I'm interested to see him in a different light and I bet it will change peoples opinions about him.
